Thanks for the good times in 2018 and for the lessons!?You have reviewed and reflected on what has gone well for you in 2018, what you have enjoyed and also what you would like to change or perhaps abandon.
We are now in 2019 and you are ready to identify some goals as you want to make 2019 the best year ever. Yes, let’s do this…
Goal setting can be a simple process. It’s about what you want in your life, what you want to achieve, where you want to go.
Goal setting is a personal journey. You choose the areas of your life that you want to focus on: Your career, finance, family, health…
Are you ready? Do you have a piece of blank paper or do you have an app that you can use? Evernote or Trello or Mindmap.
In this episode, I am going to challenge your thinking with some questions. What I love about it is that there is no right or wrong. You are writing the story.
- What you don’t have and what you don’t want
- What are your top 3 priorities?
- How about a visual board?
- What are the obstacles and the barriers?
- Do you have a personal advisory board?
Welcome to this episode of Leading The Coaching Change Podcast. I'm Nadine Powrie Executive and Leadership Coach, I'm so excited because this is my first podcast ever.
So I thought that today would be very appropriate to talk about goals and goals for 2019. So goal setting is a thinking process about what you want in your life, what you want to achieve where you want to go. And it's a little bit like choosing your destination.
So it's got to be a destination where you really want to, to go and travel to. So you might want to set goals in your career, in your finance, with your family, with your health, it just depends on what you want, really. And there is no right or wrong. It's just something about about you. So I have three steps that I want to talk to you about today. And the step number one is about getting ready.
So I have some questions for you. What do you want in life, but don't have and that could be short term, medium long term, then think about what you do have in life, but don't want. So things that are taking too much time that are having stress that have no impact whatsoever on your life that are really heavy to carry, and that you might want to consider abandoning them, what are your top three priorities in life? And I'm saying three, because three is achievable. As soon as you go beyond three, it's becoming too complicated.
And I like simple. And so I'm asking what are your top three priorities in life?
And then where do you want to be in 10 years time? So let's say we are in 2029, where will you want to be. So here is about visualization. And you may want to create a vision board. I love vision board.
And I've done actually a blog that I'm going to be putting in the show notes. And a visual board is about where you can put pictures and photos and images or quotes or headlines or colors, anything you want to put on there and use anything that inspire you or motivate you and think about where you want to have that vision ball. So do you want it on your computer on your screensaver on your desk? Or do you want it at home on the wall in your bedroom and you just decide. But that's a very powerful tool for you to look at every day. And to keep thinking about how you can achieve those priorities.
So step two is about setting those goals. So what three things would make a total success for you. And I really mean total success. So you need to be very specific, what are the benefits of each of those goals, because they need to have a purpose, and they need to impact in your life in a very positive way. And this is why I talk about total success.
And when will you achieve each goal by I think it's really important to have a deadline for each of those goals. Otherwise, it could just be unless, and we don't know where we are going. And how will you know that you have achieved your goals.
And I'm asking that because I love measuring the impact that we are setting ourselves. So how will you know that you have achieved your goals. So step one was about getting ready. Step two is about setting your goals. And step three is about doing. So that's actually the most difficult part of your goals. Because this is about actions that you are going to take.
So what are the actions that you will take to achieve each of your three goals. And here, it's about creating new habits that you feel comfortable with, because it's going to change what you are doing on a daily basis. And it's also about how you are spending your time and you may want to do a time inventory. And sometime we are better in morning as there are slots during the day where we are better. So you may want to explore actually your working style or your learning style.
Depending on on what you're doing in your life, then you might want to think about the obstacles of the barriers that might be in the way for you to start those actions. And it's always very helpful to kind of preempt those barriers and those obstacles and to have a strategy so that you can remove them. And you can continue with your daily actions. Jim, Rohn said that you are the average of the five people you spend most time with, and actually believe in that. So those five people are kind of your personal advisory board. They have an enormous impact on your motivation on your attitude on your mindset. So you probably know where I'm going with that, who are those people in your life and considering the goals that you have and the actions that you've outlined to achieve those goals. You know, those right people, those people that you want to have in your life to achieve what you want to achieve. So get ready, set your goals and take actions for 2019. Now, you might say, well, Nadine, you asking us about our goals. But what about your goals for 2019. So I have three goals just like you. I'm going to continue to focus on LinkedIn, and Twitter and podcasting.
So I'll have a podcast every week at the beginning of the week, and I will have a guest on my post podcast at the end of every month on the last week, in terms of my offers, I'm going to be selling my six master classes and then on my website and I'm going to be focusing on my one to one coaching clients interest because I love doing one to one coaching and I'm going to be doing more speaking because I've just done incredibly well this year with my speaking around the world. I was in Dubai, I was in France. I was in Australia and I really just love being surrounded by people and talking about what I love most really, and what is my passion and I also love meeting new people because it keeps inspiring me so I'm going to be doing more of that I've got a few plans, a few projects that I will talk to you again in the future. So feel free to let me know about your goals in 2019.
I'm really looking forward to supporting you and I hope you're going to have a fabulous week and I will see you next week.
